Where is the location of Yamunotri Char Dham Yatra?

The Dham is situated at an altitude of 3,291 meters (10,797 ft) in the Garhwal Himalayas in District Uttarkashi in the state of Uttrakhand. It is a full-day trip by road from major towns such as Uttarkashi, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun.

The travel includes narrow hilly roads and scenic bio-diversity and trek. Pilgrims have to travel to the base camp in Jankichatti from where they have to trek for 5 to 6km to reach the Dham and complete the Yamunotri Char Dham Yatra.

The Journey to the Yamunotri:

There could be many ways to reach the temple and all journeys have their advantages and experience but there are 2 major ways to reach the Dham are- 

Janki Chatti-

  • The journey starts with the major cities like Dekharadun which you can reach by road, railway, or commercial airways from there pilgrims have to travel to Barkot by road which takes around 4 to 5 hours.
  • Now from Barkot, the pilgrims have to travel to any base camp to stay and where they can prepare themselves for the upcoming trek which is mainly at Jankichatti. 
  • From the base camp to the temple, pilgrims have to trek with all their luggage on their backs which is around 6 km and could take several hours. 
  • After the day-long journey, they can meet their goddess and can stay in the nearby Ashrams and Dharamshalas, and some guesthouses. However, the journey in the Himalayas can be uncomfortable sometimes.

Yamunotri Chardham Yatra by Helicopter: The Shorter option-

  • Traffic, harsh weather conditions, and the trek can make traveling in hilly areas difficult so there are options like the Char Dham Yatra helicopter service which can reduce such problems in the Yamunotri Char Dham Yatra.
